Take a look inside a thought-provoking online exhibition by Nara Walker created during her incarceration in a high security prison in Iceland. This is her voice during these challenging times...

2019 Art Dates
Introducing Barcelona Sculptor Mireia Serra
We have been following Mireia's work internationally for some years now and are thrilled to introduce her work into Australia for the first time. Mireia works in bronze and iron and cleverly creates beautiful visual narratives from everyday moments. The images are breathtakingly simple and whisk you away on a memorable journey. It is the small moments in life that are captured in such a delightful way.
Introducing Melbourne Artist Steve Rosendale
We are so excited to be collaborating with Steve. The retro, edgy, gritty feel of the city completely captures us and it is with great pleasure we are able to introduce his work to you. If you love old movies and film clips with a unique take and fantastic artistic talent to produce seriously cool hyperrealistic paintings full of mystery and promise, then this is for you!!

Australian Artist Nara Walker vs Iceland

Nara Walker has taken her case to The European Court of Human Rights and it has been accepted for consideration!
The complaint addresses Nara's rights that have been violated by the Icelandic state with attention brought to Articles 3, 6, 8 and 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
If you would like to support Nara you can donate to her GO FUND here
Purchasing Nara's work is also a great way to support Nara as well as her art practice.
We applaud Nara's determination and strength in such times of injustice and ongoing uncertainty.

Online exhibition: Room 05:04 by Nara Walker

Room 05:04 is a collection of water colour, acrylic, charcoal and ink works on paper that were created whilst I was incarcerated in Iceland for defending myself against my now former husband.”
“February 20 2019, a sterile prison awaited my entry and a protest in front – people standing in solidarity – Inside I was left alone in room 05:04, a cell that connected to the hallway which directed the inmates steps past one another’s cells. One of Iceland’s high security prison’s confined between three sets of high fences. The only way to escape these perimeters was to create new spaces in myself, these works on paper reflect and capture this moment in time.”
“I was later moved to a low security facility, that allowed me to move with more freedom – yet still confined to a room – the current physical reality was retraining me – I continued to create.”
“Reaching international media has given a voice to my story. A petition for pardon surpassed 43,000 signatures – my case now continues with a complaint to The European Court of Human Rights and I am continuing to delve deeper into self expression. Lacking justice in the Icelandic system has given me a drive to continue with awareness for the cause Intimate Partner Violence – this is prevalent within my work and I can see how it has evolved through my expression since 2017.”

A quick catch up with Zhong Chen!
We managed a quick trip to Melbourne and caught up with Zhong Chen. It is not often you can coincide an artist catch up with a stay in an art inspired hotel! It was fabulous to stay and experience the Art Series Hotel, [THE CHEN] in the cultural hub of Box Hill, Melbourne and really immerse ourselves in the art of Zhong Chen. If you are a fan of his work we definitely recommend it. But of course the highlight was actually catching up with Zhong himself...
