Brent Harvey

Brent Harvey Bio "Well before any intellectual consideration has always been the simple desire to make marks that please the eye." New Zealand born artist Brent Harvey arrived in Australia originally as a seventeen year old stowaway in the early 70’s. Since that initial introduction to a whole new world, he has spent a majority of his adult life wandering and living throughout much of Australia. There have also been extensive excursions overseas, and of course with art as a constant backdrop throughout. Arriving on the Sunshine Coast in the mid 1990s, it was to become the preferred home base. With a professional career in the arts now spanning into it’s fifth decade, Brent is comfortable with most traditional mediums as well as considerable experience in photography and digital art. Throughout this time he has continued to exhibit his work solely in Australia and New Zealand. “A couple of the highlights that stand out: Winning the inaugural $50,000 James Hardie Wildlife Art Prize in 1991 and Runner-up in the $100,000 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 1994. Though those were two fairly prestigious Australian art events to be involved in within themselves, the fact that my mother was able to fly over from NZ to share in the experience made both extra special memories. But Mums are special anyway aren’t they?”
